Kinship Connection: What is Kinship Care
Kinship care refers to circumstances in which children are cared for full time by blood relatives or other adults with whom they have a family-like relationship, such as godparents or close family friends, and a parent is not present in the household.
Most children placed into kinship care had some type of traumatic experiences in their parents’ homes, such as domestic violence, drug or alcohol use, and/or abuse and neglect. Kinship caregivers can help reduce these negative effects by providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment.
Care Connection for Aging Services offers kinship support groups, educational classes, resources, household essentials, family events, and much more.
