WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE GREATER CLINTON-AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE/BY DAVID LEE-DIRECTOR: 6/23/23

Heartland Community Theatre is pleased to announce the latest edition of our upcoming Sunday monthly movie matinee at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 25th, 2023. This month’s feature presentation is “The African Queen” (1951), starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, directed by John Huston. This presentation is set in East Africa, at the beginning of World War I. The captain of a riverboat is persuaded by an English missionary to undertake a dangerous trip up a treacherous river and attack a German gunboat. Humphrey Bogart won an Oscar for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his portrayal of the riverboat captain. Admission is always FREE for this monthly event, along with gourmet popcorn and beverages. Hope to see everyone at the Heartland Community Theatre, 108 North Washington, Clinton, for our movie matinee event this Sunday afternoon!!

The Agriculture Committee of the Greater Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce would like to invite businesses, groups, clubs, organizations, etc. to be a sponsor of the Ag golf tournament. Last year, the committee raised enough money to give away three-$1,000 scholarships to college students from Henry County, and we have set the same high goal for this year.  The Ag Committee is asking that you consider being a hole sponsor for $100 and participating in our golf tournament again this year. The deadline to be a hole sponsor is Friday, July 7th, as we must allow time to make sure we have signs for everyone. If you would like to know more info on being a sponsor or entering a team in the tournament, call 660-885-8166.

Clinton Disc Golf Tournament;  Modern disc golf started in the 1960s on campuses and city parks. The rules and terms are very much like traditional golf. Disc golf started as frisbee golf using trees and such until organizers decided to formalize the sport. In the 1970s a ‘Whamo’ toy inventor redesigned the frisbee into a disc that can fly much farther. They also designed the catch baskets that are used today. The game took off with over 18,000 courses worldwide with over 14,000 in the USA. Hundreds of courses are added each year. The DGA (Disc Golf Association) was formed in 1976. The sport is still growing both at the amateur and pro level. The Clinton Front 9 was put in Artesian Park in 2011 and the Back nine in 2021. These courses were sponsored by the Tony Komer Foundation and the Clinton Tourism Committee. Successful small local tournaments have been held at our local course but on Saturday, June 24 our first Regional Tournament will be held. The tournament will host Pros and several levels of amateurs. You can get more information by going to Udisc.com or Discgolfmonkey.com. Spectators are welcome. The parking lot for the course is west of the Artesian Swimming Pool, South of Hole #1.

From Clinton, MO Parks & RecreationAre you ready to head OUTSIDE??? We have SOME of our ducks in a row and starting SATURDAY afternoon (6/24/2023), we will open the Artesian Pool at 1:00PM!! Entrance to the pool will NOT be through the new bathhouse yet, but through the former concession area with single men’s/women’s bathrooms on the backside (so come to SWIM, not come to change clothes). Admission is only $2 and we can ONLY accept Cash, Check or TOKENS…no CARDS! You may only buy tokens at the Indoor Aquatic Center Monday-Friday mornings before 11:00AM.
