WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE GREATER CLINTON-AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE/BY DAVID LEE-DIRECTOR: 3/31/23

I will not have a report on Friday, April 7th.  I will be in Houston next week with my wife Bretta as she is donating life-saving blood for her sister at MD Anderson Cancer Center.  We understand this type of donation process can be very draining (no pun intended) and I want to be there for her and Brenda.

Don’t forget the 2023 Quilt Walk is March 31st and April 1st on the Downtown Clinton Square.  For all the details, call the Clinton Main Street office at 660-885-2121.

My thanks to the Senior Center for letting me be a part of their Auction for the Ages last Sunday.  It seemed like the event (fried chicken and art) was a success and they raised some much-needed funds.

From the HCHC:  The Henry County Health Center for the past 4 years has hosted a “Baby Shower/Expo” in the month of April.  This year, the health center instead is going to host an event titled “Healthy Families Expo” at the Benson Center April 1st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  We have invited various groups/vendors that promote healthy lifestyles, and healthy families as a whole.

We will be providing our “top five” prizes with other prizes to be won.  A lot will be going on April 1st from 10-2 in the Benson Center.

You are invited to an anniversary celebration. Lana at Crave Boutique is celebrating 10 years in business this Sat. The Chamber of Commerce will be there today(3/31) at 12:00 to celebrate with her. Stop by for a piece of cake, congratulate Lana and take a look around…and she won’t mind if you buy something! 411 Kansas Ave. in Clinton. See you there!!  If you can’t make it today, be sure to stop by on Sat.

This was from Amanda Johnson with Clinton Main Street on Wed.:  What an incredible few days I’ve had at the Main Street Now Conference in Boston! My notebooks are full and so is my heart! I chose 6 sessions that were very specific to what I need for our program, and I’m so excited to bring this information back to my board and committees to use in a tangible way moving forward.

This was from Facebook on Thursday morning:  Today’s date is THURSDAY, March 30th. On THURSDAY, June 29th, Olde Glory Days 2023 will officially kick off. Today, we debut the theme and logo for this year…Olde Glory Days 30th birthday! The OGD committee and all its volunteers had a meeting three days after the end of last year’s celebration to start planning for this year’s Olde Glory Days. The four bands that will perform, the daily entertainment, the carnival and the sound crew for this year were all booked before the end of this past Dec. Details on this year’s celebration will be announced on the Olde Glory Days Facebook page throughout April and May. If you haven’t already, be sure to like that page. Work continues on securing the Veteran’s dinner, vendors, more entertainment, badges, a motorcycle-only show, parade entries, prizes and much more. Once again this year, you can pre-order OGD t-shirts at C Squared. If you would like to be a vendor or have any questions, call the Chamber at 660-885-8166. To enter the parade, call Jared Goodbrake at 660-351-4988 or Logan Modlin at 660-492-0799.

Easter, prom, graduation…the front of the Chamber building is now ready for your photo opportunity. Thanks Jerry’s Pest Management.  Check out their work on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ClintonMO

Also on our Facebook page, did you see the photos I posted on Thursday?  A lot of construction and improvements happening, especially on the east side of the Square.  Don’t mind a part of my finger in a couple of the photos. ????

The Henry County Library would like to inform the public that the roof replacement scheduled to begin on April 1, 2023, has been postponed until mid-May. The library will continue to provide updates as to the status of the project. Thank you for your patience!

Businesses, groups, clubs, churches, organizations, couples and individuals can, and have in the past, be sponsors of Academic Excellence!  March, 2023  Dear Friends of Education:

The Society for Academic Excellence invites students who have achieved a 3.5 or higher grade point average during this school year to be recognized. Last year, 257 students were honored, including 26 graduating seniors who maintained a 3.5 GPA each year throughout high school. In addition, four seniors from Clinton High School and one senior from Clinton Christian Academy received $500 scholarships. We invite you to join other individuals and businesses in the Clinton area to help honor the scholastic achievements of Clinton High School and Clinton Christian Academy students.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Academic Excellence Program, all because of our supportive community which has taken an interest in education for the youth within our school district. Our program this year will be focused on providing a quality experience for our students and an opportunity for the graduating seniors to be recognized with scholarships to encourage furthering their education.

The consistent support of the program from sponsors like you have allowed the Society to provide this recognition for our top performing students and their families. Your contribution of $50.00 as a Silver Sponsor or $100.00 as a Gold Sponsor will benefit the students as they receive their official Academic Excellence medals and ribbons. For your support, you will receive the following:

1. Recognition in the Academic Excellence Ceremony that will be held this spring

2. Listing as a Silver or Gold sponsor in an ad the Chamber purchases in the Clinton Daily Democrat

3. Either a walnut plaque as a first-year sponsor or a 2023 date plate as a returning sponsor

4. Satisfaction from supporting our youth in Academic Excellence as a partner in education

Also, many continuing sponsors may need a new plaque for additional year bars. Let the office know when you send your sponsorship. Please make your checks payable to Greater Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce with a memo for Society for Academic Excellence. Checks can be mailed or delivered to the Depot, 200 South Main, Clinton, MO 64735. Please respond by April 21.

Thank you for your consideration and support of our youth and education.

From the Clinton Animal Shelter: Since our shelter numbers have remained so high, the Kuranda beds that our shelter dogs sleep on are showing a lot of wear and tear. These beds are great because they keep the dogs off the concrete floor and are very durable. If you would like to order one for a shelter dog, please click on the link below. Our wish list is under Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor. Thank you!!  https://shelterbeds.org/#mapSearch  You can also donate for the bed through PayPal- clintonanimalshelter@yahoo.com
