Businesses, groups, clubs, churches, organizations, couples and individuals can, and have in the past, be sponsors of Academic Excellence!  March, 2023  Dear Friends of Education: The Society for Academic Excellence invites students who have achieved a 3.5 or higher grade point average during this school year to be recognized. Last year, 257 students were honored, including 26 graduating seniors who maintained a 3.5 GPA each year throughout high school. In addition, four seniors from Clinton High School and one senior from Clinton Christian Academy received $500 scholarships. We invite you to join other individuals and businesses in the Clinton area to help honor the scholastic achievements of Clinton High School and Clinton Christian Academy students. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Academic Excellence Program, all because of our supportive community which has taken an interest in education for the youth within our school district. Our program this year will be focused on providing a quality experience for our students and an opportunity for the graduating seniors to be recognized with scholarships to encourage furthering their education. The consistent support of the program from sponsors like you have allowed the Society to provide this recognition for our top performing students and their families. Your contribution of $50.00 as a Silver Sponsor or $100.00 as a Gold Sponsor will benefit the students as they receive their official Academic Excellence medals and ribbons. For your support, you will receive the following:

1. Recognition in the Academic Excellence Ceremony that will be held this spring

2. Listing as a Silver or Gold sponsor in an ad the Chamber purchases in the Clinton Daily Democrat

3. Either a walnut plaque as a first-year sponsor or a 2023 date plate as a returning sponsor

4. Satisfaction from supporting our youth in Academic Excellence as a partner in education

Also, many continuing sponsors may need a new plaque for additional year bars. Let the office know when you send your sponsorship. Please make your checks payable to Greater Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce with a memo for Society for Academic Excellence. Checks can be mailed or delivered to the Depot, 200 South Main, Clinton, MO 64735. Please respond by April 21. Thank you for your consideration and support of our youth and education.

Help Save The Dorman House.  Nickolas Smith and Suzanne Bush are organizing this fundraiser to benefit Henry County Historical Society.  Built in 1852, the Dorman House is currently the oldest standing two-story home in Clinton and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The home remained in the Dorman family for over 150 years but fell into disrepair as fortunes dwindled.  Clinton Main Street purchased the home in 1996 from the Dorman family and spent six years restoring the house using volunteer labor. Clinton Main Street utilized the home as its office until 2008 when it was deeded to the Henry County Historical Society.  While the historical society has kept up with minor maintenance over the years, larger issues with the structure have become more apparent. The east side of the home exhibits minor cracking and separation — and after many severe rain showers for several years in a row — the house has developed a serious foundation and wall issues.  The Henry County Historical Society needs to take immediate action to prevent further damage and possible loss of the Dorman House. It is hoped that listing as a Place in Peril will raise awareness for the Save the Dorman capital improvement campaign and help the historical society find the expertise needed to guide them through the creation of a historic structures report and the proper restoration of this Clinton landmark.

New Growth Transit Introduces New Partnership to Encourage Shared Rides for Commuters in Nine West Central Missouri Counties – As businesses in the area continue to grow and commuting costs continue to increase, New Growth Transit is creating improvements to the area’s transit system to attract workers to the area while reducing expenses for commuters. In partnership with Commute with Enterprise, New Growth Transit is working to provide an innovative and sustainable shared mobility option: vanpooling. New Growth Transit, an affiliate of West Central Missouri Community Action Agency, serves a nine-county region which includes the Missouri counties Bates, Benton, Cass, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, Morgan, St. Clair, and Vernon. The Commute program is a coordinated vanpool program available to people who live inside or outside of Cass County, Missouri for those who wish to access jobs in the area. The program coordinates participant/employee rides for those who indicate their interest through various channels such as at their jobsite or via an online portal. The program then matches riders who have similar work shifts in similar areas and who are interested in riding together. Once four or more people are matched, a Commute with Enterprise representative will contact the group to begin working out the details. Commute with Enterprise then provides a 7-15 passenger vehicle, insurance, maintenance and ongoing support. Each vanpool is customized to the specific needs of its four or more vanpoolers.  People who commute to or from any West Central Missouri Community Action Agency-region county and are interested in joining the program can visit…/newgrowth.html
